California State University, Chico, in partnership with the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA) and The Localization Institute, is now offering an intensive Localization Certification Program, designed especially for the international marketing, localization & translation, and Web development professionals and students.
Localization is an emerging, multi-discipline field that focuses on how organizations develop linguistically and culturally appropriate Web sites, software, marketing strategies and messages for a diverse global audience.
Now you and your staff have a chance to learn localization concepts, issues, applications, and strategies in an accelerated certification program.
From April onwards you will have access to 45 hours of asynchronous online instruction which will provide an understanding of localization concepts related to conducting international business. The online instruction will be available starting April 5, 2006, and you will be able to cover the material at your own pace. Multilingual Computing, the leading publisher in the field, is supporting the development of the online content.
The second component of the Localization Certification Program is a three-day Summer Workshop, June 20-22, 2006, on the Chico State campus. The Summer Workshop features 24 hours of on-site instruction. You will learn from “Twelve Top Industry Leaders” including Adam Freed from Google (Director International Products), and you will also gain hands-on lab experience in latest localization and translation tools like localization work flow tools from Lionbridge, Alchemy’s Catalyst Suite, Translation Memory tools, MT tools etc.

In addition to providing training in the field of localization, the certification program will also emphasize and include international e-business concepts and Web marketing. There will be opportunities to network and participants interested in localization-related jobs can participate in campus recruitment service.

When you successfully complete the Localization Certification Program will receive a “triple” certification from California State University, Chico, the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA), and The Localization Institute and a special topic certification from Austin Community College. Academic credit is also available for degree-seeking individuals for an additional fee.
